About Me
I am married to Kelly and have three daughters; Michaley, Madison, and Mayrese. I grew up in a small town about 20 minutes north of Mt. Pleasant called Farwell. When I was a sophomore I moved to Michigan Center and graduated in 1990. I attended Central Michigan University and transferred to Western Michigan University in 1992. I did my student teaching at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix. After graduating from Western Michigan University I began teaching at Michigan Center High School. I have taught several subjects, coached several sports, and led many different groups at Michigan Center. Currently, I am the History Department Chair and a member of the School Improvement Reading Team.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe that all students are valuable and should be treated with respect that they earn in my classroom. Students should be held to high expectations and work hard to achieve their academic, athletic, and social goals. Positive reinforcement always works better than punishment, but classroom and school rules must be followed or consequences are required. I follow the Nurtured Heart Approach endorsed by our school and work hard to make sure that my curriculum meets our local and state standards. I vary my lesson plans and delivery to try to reach all different kinds of learners and believe that a mix of traditional and cutting edge strategies works best in my class. Parental involvement is highly encouraged and any questions or concerns should be brought to my attention so I can help students succeed.
